The existing space was a conundrum as the backyard terrain came so close to the house making it impossible to step out onto the same level as the indoor floor. The initial setup consisted of external stairs that not only obstructed the view but also proved aesthetically displeasing.
In order to make the space more functional we needed to excavate the existing backyard. By excavating close to 50 tonne of dirt and sandstone rock we were able to gain significant square footage to allow our structural landscaping designs for the space to come to life.
We built retaining walls all around the newly excavated section and poured a concrete bed for the tiles to be laid. This new tiled section finally allowed our client’s indoor space to seamlessly join with their backyard. The new tiled area became the perfect spot for entertaining and an outdoor lounge area to relax in. Leading from the tiled patio to the upper section of their backyard we built an expansive outdoor staircase using Merbau decking boards. The staircase treads have inlaid strip lighting running along the length of them to allow for the perfect ambience at night time and for the pathway up to be perfectly lit. The grandness of the staircase really sets the tone for the luxuriousness this makeover gave this backyard.
